We have been studying the Jehovah titles systematically through the Scriptures as they appear in the Bible; however, we are going to skip down the line to the book of Deuteronomy.

First Mention: Deuteronomy 33:29
Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency! and thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee; and thou shalt tread upon their high places.

Meaning: The Lord Our Shield
                The Lord Our Sword

Pronunciation: Magen (Maw-gane’)
                        Chereb (Kheh’-reb)

He is our Shield of DEFENSE and our Sword of OFFENSE.

1. He Is Our Shield.
Psalm 91:1-6, Psalms 59:9-11, Psalms 28:7

David found out how important it was for the Lord to be his shield of defense when he was continually having to run and hide from Saul. II Samuel 22:2-4

David was constantly on the defense in his flight from the king who sought to take his life, and yet the Lord covered and guarded him as a shield does the soldier carrying it. II Samuel 22:35-37

Just as the Lord shielded David, He is our strength and shield today. Psalms 33:18-22, Proverbs 30:5

2. He Is Our Sword.
Psalms 27

God is our living arsenal! He provides for us all the weapons required for this warfare.

He is THE Truth, and His Word is the revelation of Himself.

The truth of God’s Word is a sword pre-sharpened for the hands of His children. That sword of truth becomes the main weapon of our warfare. Ephesians 6:17, Hebrews 4:12

We are fighting externally and internally.

Externally, we fight the error of this world, the constant battle to stay constant, and the circumstances of life that create conflict on a daily basis.

We fight for our testimony as a shining light is this world. I Timothy 6:11-16, II Corinthians 10:3-4
